The Samson PVP is a USDA approved program that verifies production activities for value added markets. The programs available for producers include:

  • Only calves born on your ranch are eligible.
  • Calves must be program tagged prior to leaving the ranch of origin to guarantee eligibility. If the calves are shipped prior to program tagging, then the calves must move directly to the feedyard and must be identified by a ranch tag, brand or tattoo.
  • Calves not born on your ranch must be identified and recorded prior to commingling.
  • Age
  • Group or individual birth dates are acceptable.
  • A written birth record documenting the first born date must be provided and kept on file for three years. This record may be on a calendar, calving book, diary or other approved document.
  • An alternative birth record for those who do not check births on a daily basis is to document a "no calves born to date" record.

  • Calves meet a minimum of Age & Source verified
  • A Samson approved Veterinarian must certify the following shots have been given.
  • 4 way modified live
  • IBR
  • BVD
  • BRSV
  • PI3
  • 7 way Colstridia
  • Pasturella
  • Dewormer
  • Vaccines must be administered no later than 15 days prior to shipping and no earlier than 60 days prior to weaning.
  • Producer must have a current Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certificate on file
  • Study shows that the VQA program, on average, added $2.63/cwt on a 5 weight basis
  • Full Pfizer report available on request documenting value added to calves by VQA Program
• Non-Hormone Treated Cattle (NHTC) (more) Download NHTC Flyer
  • Absolutely no hormonal growth promotants (HGP) may be used.
  • HGP's include Implants, MGA and Optaflexx.
  • If HGP's are present, inventory control records must be used showing purchases, uses and physical inventory. If inventory control records are not in place, the calves will automatically be disqualified.
  • Feed records including pasture dates are required to be maintained and audited during reevaluation.

  • No antibiotics can be administered through feed, water or injection from birth to slaughter.
  • No HGP's may be used.
  • No animal by-products can be used as feed.
  • If HGP's, antibiotics or other controlled substances are present, inventory control records must be used showing purchases, uses and physical inventory. If inventory control records are not in place, the calves will automatically be disqualified.

  • Eligible calves must meet the minimum breed percentage as defined by the breed organization.
  • Supplier must provide documented proof of registered breeding stock.
  • In mixed breeding herds, cattle must be physically segregated and identified during the breeding season.

  • American Wagyu Association-The minimum verification level for the American Wagyu Association is defined by the "Rules of the American Wagyu Association".

  • Supplier must be in good standing with a current BQA certificate on file.
• High Quality Feeding Claims (HQF) (more) Download HQF Flyer
  • Never Fed Beta Agonists: To be eligible for Never Fed Beta Agonists, the cattle must not receive any beta agonists during the feeding period. Beta-agonists include, but not limited to, Zilmax and Optaflexx.
  • Quota B: To be eligible, cattle must be fed a 60.318 Mcal/cwt NEG diet, consuming 1.4% of their body weight on a dry matter basis for at least the last 100 days on feed.
  • Quota A: Cattle must have been fed for 100 days or more on a nutritionally balanced, high energy feed concentration ration containing no less than 70% grain, and at least 20 pounds feed per day per head. The 100 days does not have to be consecutive.
  • Daily feed logs are required to be submitted with the ingredient percentages one week prior to shipment.
